John became a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants in 1968. He has been in public practice since that time, and is a member of the College of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
 John has been a partner at the Auckland Office of Reeder Smith & Co for the past forty years, and merged his practice with Lynch Phibbs Limited on 5 May 2008.
John's main areas of expertise are tourist accommodation, and the medical / health sector.
